    Two full sets of the digits 0 to 9 mean you can spell any number from 01 to 99, doubles included: 11, 22, 77. Each holder stands 3.9 inches tall and has grooves at the top where the candles sit, so the number reads clearly and the wax stays above the frosting.

    Polished stainless steel at 0.11 inches thick keeps the digits from bending when they go into a firm cake or a cold one straight from the fridge. Afterward they wash and go back in the drawer for the next birthday, anniversary or graduation.

    Size the number to the cake. For a 4 to 6 inch cake, one or two holders look right. An 8 inch cake takes two or three, and a 10 inch cake has room for more. Silver and gold are the two finishes.
